Frequently Asked Questions

DOES HYPNOTHERAPY WORK?

Hypnotherapy is an effective therapeutic approach for a range of issues and behavioural changes. Everyone responds differently, however, and results can vary depending on the individual, the issue being addressed and their engagement with the process.

During our work together, we explore the thoughts, beliefs, experiences and patterns that may be contributing to how you currently think, feel or behave. We can then begin developing healthier and more helpful ways of responding. Some clients notice meaningful changes after one session, while others benefit from additional sessions and ongoing reinforcement.

WHAT CAN HYPNOTHERAPY HELP WITH?

I work with clients on a wide range of issues, including anxiety, stress, panic attacks, confidence and self-esteem, fears and phobias, public speaking, drinking, smoking and vaping, unwanted habits, emotional eating, sleep problems and more. If you are unsure whether hypnotherapy is suitable for the issue you would like help with, I offer a free initial telephone consultation so we can discuss your individual circumstances before you book.

IS HYPNOTHERAPY SAFE?

Yes. Hypnosis is generally considered safe when used appropriately by a trained professional. You remain aware and in control throughout the session. Hypnotherapy cannot make you do something against your will, and you can stop the process at any time. Some therapeutic work can bring up emotions or memories connected with the issue being explored, and I will support and guide you throughout the session.

Hypnotherapy is not a replacement for appropriate medical or psychiatric care. If you have a medical or mental health condition, I may recommend discussing hypnotherapy with your doctor or another appropriate healthcare professional before proceeding.

WILL I BE ASLEEP?

No. Despite the name, hypnosis is not sleep. Most people describe it as a deeply relaxed and focused state, a little like becoming completely absorbed in a book, film or daydream. You will still be able to hear my voice, answer questions and communicate with me throughout the session. You remain in control at all times.

CAN EVERYONE BE HYPNOTISED?

Most people can experience hypnosis to some degree, although everyone experiences it differently. Some people feel extremely relaxed and deeply absorbed, while others remain very aware of their surroundings. Neither experience is better than the other. You don't need to feel as though you are in a very deep trance for hypnotherapy to be beneficial. Being willing to engage with the process is more important than trying to achieve a particular feeling.

WILL I LOSE CONTROL OR SAY SOMETHING I DON'T WANT TO?

No. You remain in control throughout hypnosis. Clinical hypnotherapy is very different from the portrayal of hypnosis you may have seen in stage shows or on television. You are aware of what is happening, can speak and respond normally and can choose whether or not to follow a suggestion. Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process. I am there to guide you, but you remain in control.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A HYPNOTHERAPY SESSION?

We begin by talking about the issue you would like help with, how it is currently affecting you and what you would like to change. Your session is then tailored specifically to you. Depending on your needs, I may use a combination of Clinical Hypnotherapy, RTT®, CBT, NLP and other therapeutic techniques to explore the thoughts, beliefs, experiences and patterns connected with your issue. Hypnosis is then used to help you become deeply relaxed and focused while we work on developing new, more helpful perspectives, responses and behaviours. There is plenty of time to talk before and after the hypnotherapy, and you can ask questions at any point.

HOW WILL I FEEL AFTERWARDS?

Everyone responds differently. Many clients leave their session feeling relaxed, calm, positive or lighter. You may also feel reflective as you process what has been explored during the session. Occasionally, particularly after more emotional therapeutic work, you may feel tired or find yourself thinking about aspects of the session afterwards. This can be a normal part of processing the experience. I recommend giving yourself a little time after your session rather than rushing immediately into a busy schedule. You will be fully awake and alert before leaving your session.

WILL I NOTICE A CHANGE STRAIGHT AWAY?

Some people notice a change in the way they think or feel immediately after a session, while for others the changes are more gradual and subtle. You may begin noticing that you respond differently to situations that previously triggered an automatic thought, feeling or behaviour. Sometimes it is only when you encounter an old situation that you realise your response has changed.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

The number of sessions varies depending on you and the issue you would like to address. Most clients find that one focused session creates meaningful change, while others benefit from additional sessions or ongoing therapeutic support. I do not believe in unnecessarily prolonging therapy. We can discuss your individual needs during your initial consultation and decide on the most appropriate approach for you.

DO I RECEIVE A PERSONALISED HYPNOSIS AUDIO?

Personalised self-hypnosis recordings are included with selected session programmes. Your recording is created specifically for you and reinforces the therapeutic work and positive suggestions from your session. You can listen to it regularly at home following your appointment. I also have a range of self-hypnosis audios available separately for people who would like support with specific issues without booking an individual hypnotherapy session.

WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER MY SESSION?

Where possible, allow yourself a little time to relax and process your session afterwards. You can continue with your normal day, but you may prefer not to arrange anything particularly demanding immediately afterwards, especially if we have worked on something emotional.

If your session includes a personalised self-hypnosis audio, I will explain how and when to listen to it and provide any other recommendations relevant to your individual programme.

WILL I REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED DURING HYPNOSIS?

Yes, most people remember their session. You are not unconscious during hypnosis. You remain aware of my voice and what we are discussing, although you may become so relaxed and absorbed that some parts of the session feel more memorable than others.

DO I HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THINGS I DON'T WANT TO DISCUSS?

No. You are always in control of what you choose to share. We may explore experiences, thoughts or emotions that are relevant to the issue you are working on, but you will never be forced to discuss something you do not want to discuss. Creating an environment in which you feel comfortable and supported is an important part of the therapeutic process.

ARE HYPNOTHERAPY SESSIONS CONFIDENTIAL?

Yes. Your sessions are private and confidential, subject to the usual professional and legal exceptions that apply to therapeutic practice. I will explain confidentiality and its limits as part of the consultation and consent process before we begin working together.

CAN I HAVE HYPNOTHERAPY ONLINE?

Yes. I offer online hypnotherapy sessions as well as face-to-face appointments. Online sessions allow you to experience hypnotherapy from the comfort and privacy of your own home and are available to clients throughout the UK and internationally. You will need a quiet, comfortable space where you will not be disturbed, along with a reliable internet connection.

IS ONLINE HYPNOTHERAPY AS EFFECTIVE AS IN-PERSON HYPNOTHERAPY?

Yes. Many of the same hypnotherapy techniques can be delivered successfully online, and some clients particularly enjoy being able to relax in their own familiar surroundings. Whether you choose online or in-person sessions is often a matter of personal preference, location and the type of support you need.

WHERE ARE IN-PERSON HYPNOTHERAPY SESSIONS HELD?

I offer in-person hypnotherapy from my practice at 125 Gloucester Road in South Kensington, London SW7 4TE, conveniently located close to Gloucester Road Underground station. The practice is easily accessible from Kensington, Chelsea, Knightsbridge, Fulham, Earl's Court and surrounding areas of Central and West London.

DO YOU OFFER EVENING AND WEEKEND APPOINTMENTS?

Yes. I understand that fitting therapy around work and other commitments can be difficult, so I offer flexible appointment times, including selected evenings and weekends.

DO YOU WORK WITH TEENAGERS?

Yes. I work with young people as well as adults and tailor the approach according to their age, needs and individual circumstances. Hypnotherapy can be used to support issues such as anxiety, confidence, fears and phobias, exam nerves, unwanted habits and other emotional or behavioural difficulties. For younger clients, I will discuss the process and appropriate consent arrangements with a parent or guardian before booking.

HOW DO I KNOW IF HYPNOTHERAPY IS RIGHT FOR ME?

You don't need to decide on your own. I offer a free initial telephone consultation where you can tell me a little about what you would like help with, ask any questions and find out more about how I work. There is no obligation to book a session following your consultation.

HOW MUCH DOES A HYPNOTHERAPY SESSION COST?

I offer a range of hypnotherapy options depending on the issue you would like help with and the level of support required. Prices start from £95 for a personalised self-hypnosis audio, £265 for a 90-minute session and £425 for a full three-hour online session, which includes a personalised self-hypnosis audio and 21 days of follow-up support.

Prices vary depending on whether your session is online or in person. If you're unsure which option would be most suitable for you, I offer a free initial telephone consultation where we can discuss what you would like help with and the best approach for your individual needs.
